OK. Challenge accepted. Here's a not-so-simple method. Use [Path > Path Effects...] [+] [Fill between many] to stretch a shape into the space between the four separate paths. You may need [Path > Reverse Path] on the base paths to join nodes in the correct order.
[ctrl+d] will duplicate the fill shape including its links to the original base paths. Use [ctrl+c] and [ctrl+v] instead to link the pasted fill to the pasted base paths.
Hello,
I would like to make the left drawing look like the right one.
Right drawing is in fact a group of two paths, one closed for the fill and one opened for the stroke. Is there a simplest way to achieve this effect ?
Thanks for listening.
You have found (in my opinion) the simplest method.
Thank you.
That's what I feared. Not complicated with such a simple drawing but with a complex one, it can take much more time...

Paddy_CAD - starting with this combined path ( the nodes are not joined )
Is there a simple way to go to the filled shaped ?
I tried with a background rectangle and division - but it makes a huge number of nodes.
To fill that shape, I'd just use path operations and node tool after deleting the extra bits.
doh -- I didn't notice the 2nd set (duplicate) little paths !!
So, all it needed was Press N, Ctrl + A, Shift + J
Thanks Tyler
Mightyscape 1.2 https://github.com/eridur-de/mightyscape-1.2
Has a join extension. It sometimes missed the last join, but I think it might do what you want.
Hello,
I found another quite simple method that I wanted to share here. I didn't knew that so much comments had been added here in the meantime !!
My method is probably using the same live path effects than the Paddy_CAD's one but simpler to execute.
- Draw the four paths, not combining them.
- select them all
- Path > Fill between paths.
Thanks to all !
