If I ever try to cut a shape with a difference boolean operation (or even if I put things the other way around for intersection) that is different than a circle into the shape of a circle so it only fits that positive, the edges that are effectively cut never match the round border of the circle (or any complex shape, really) and are usually off by around 0.5 pixels, of course all depending on the scale of the project. This does not change if I add hundreds of nodes to try to account for the change in detail, as you'll be able to see in the included svg.

The svg includes the two shapes before cutting (left) and after (right).

How do I get Inkscape to retain the proper detail required?

Itยดs the circle with just 4 nodes causing the gap from my experience. Select all 4 nodes and hit the "Insert new nodes into selected segments" one time and do the Path operation again.
