So i updated to the latest version, uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and I still cant open SVG file with inkscape when I click on it. I even tried creating a new file in the same folder, nothing happens. I open task manager and there is no Inkscape being loaded. The file association is there in windows that Inkscape is the default program to open svg files but nothing ever activates. I tried making sure all permission and Run As Administrator are selected. Still nothing happens. Inkscape the program doesnt even try to initiate.
Ive used inkscape for years now and the one thing I hate about it more than anything are all the insane varied bugs and glitches that continue to surface.
I had the same issue with windows. however when I started the program (so not by double clicking an svg file, but simply by selecting it in my start button), the program opened correctly and I was able to open the file from there. does that work for you as well?
Febe, when I had that issue in win 7 I had to move my whole inkscape folder to c:\\...Pgm Files (X86). The cause was something that I can't quite remember now, dual core maybe, the .exe file couldn't launch, yada yada. Can't hurt to move the whole file over to see if that solves it.
Clarice Starling - While you are fine posting here, you might get better/useful responses if you want to start a new thread. win 10 has some oddities, and someone who knows win 10 might be better to help you.
ok i figured out finally that it was because I had a previous version of Inkscape that didn't fully uninstall. Those leftover files also were never picked up by any registry or windows cleaner programs. Which is pretty ridiculous because everything you install should be fully removable. So I had to manually go delete all the files that were left over. After, I ran a windows cleaning program and then a registry cleaner. then restarted, then installed the newest version of inkscape x64 for windows 10. And it worked.
But on another issue... the program won't let me drag and drop image files directly into the programs interface. It used to be able to do that with all the previous versions I have had over the years..
I had similar issues on LInux with the Snap version. I now installed Inkscape frrom the repository ppa:inkscape.dev/stable and now it works as expected.

I'm having the same issue... I've tried what you've said Flamingolady but still doesn't work. The message sent said it isn't found libpoppler-84-dll.
I've downloaded the program twice and still failing. I've got windows 10 x64
I can open my archieves if right click open with inkscape... I s the only way it works
