I created a large project in excel and imported a pdf version of it into Inkscape. I used a single-line font, hoping it would convert to a centerline score rather than the double path like what normally happens when converted to path. I've been told I need to use the Hershey Text in the extension list, but keep getting an error when I try to process just one word.
Is there a way to use any single line font (a true single line font) for my projects and have the path be a single line down the center of each letter? If so, how? I've scoured the internet but have come up empty.
Hi Ptallman, I've just tested some single line fonts and the Hershey extension. Perhaps I can help. First: this option is new, the renewed extension for Hershey text works with Inkscape 1 or higher.
1 You just use a normal outline font in Inkscape for your text, with the text tool. 2 Then you select a word or all of the text and use the Hershey font extension. 3 When you want to use your own svg oultine font in the Hershey extension: Copy the exact path of your single line font (and it has to be be an svg font too), including the .svg at the end. 4 You can use as font 'Other' ans enter the exact path in the filed below, called Name/Path. 5 If you use the Live preview, you can see what it will look like.

Here you find a great collection of the single line svg fonts:

Good luck with your text.
