I am using version 1.2. This is something I found in another project. I created a simplified version of that project to test this bug. I was able to repeat it.
I have a layer with a dinosaur body and leg. I also have a yellow circle that indicates the hip location. I attached a screenshot.
I hid that circle, duplicated the layer, then moved everything on that new layer to the right. When I unhid that circle in the new layer, it was positioned back where the old layer was located.
Shouldn't that hidden object move?
Note: All the pink arrows and pink lettering on the attached screenshot were added in a paint program.
My only guess is that, since the hip location object is hidden, it can't be selected and can't be moved. What do you think?
Hi, don't believe this is a bug. When you hide an object it's not selectable, so it wasn't included when you moved your other objects. I sometimes hide objects so that I can get to something underneath them that's hard to select otherwise. I don't want the upper object to be selected when it's not visible.

Ha! And, that is the reason. See attached. When I dragged over the new layer, the Layer hierarchy doesn't show that hidden object as being selected.
Sorry! I guess I should have tested a bit more thoroughly before posting.
I can't delete this post so, I hope an admin can do that.
(In any case, it's been a long time since I visited this community. I need to get back here more often.)

Behavior for the selecting now (1.3) has more options in the preferences:
Thanks, Tyler. I had no idea that that setting existed.
It worked. I had to close and reopen Inkscape for it to take effect.
If I want something to be ignored or inaccessible, I will lock it. That's more logical to me.
