Beyond the Basics Feature Request

Hello! I want to request the built-in program updater (like Firefox and other soft have). It would great to don't make remove/install cycle with every Inkscape launch.

    Thx in advance!

Hi, can you please contact @doctormo in the chat at https://chat.inkscape.org/channel/inkscape_user about a change of your forum user name? The name is confusing, as it's incidentally the same as what this website here is codenamed in the project. Or you can also let me know about your favorite new name.

    Additionally, check out https://gitlab.com/inkscape/extras/extension-manager.

It is also managed by @doctormo (just like this website).

Hi! It would be a time saving feature if we can replace an existing masked image without importing another one and mask it again. Just like we can do in adobe Xd

I have a great idea for Inkscape: Pencil style Erase!I

hope it's not seen as a complaint; I really do appreciate all the time and efforts put into making a decent vector editor.

In many cases I want to draw some freehand vector drawings for plans, schematics, or even just some chicken scratch notes or general drafts. With Inkscapes horizon set on multi-page handling I think this will come in handy like a real notebook and pencil does. It is quite easy to draw freehand with the pencil tool, but if I want to erase a little here or there I need to go into the node editor and move things about; retouching the curves to restore original path, etc. Krita has quick erase features pixel by pixel, but vectors in raster format are not my preference for technical sketching or preliminaries, plus Krita has no sign of multi-page support coming, which would make it more tablet like in feel. It seems Inkscape is closer to this feature than Krita in some aspects. I prefer vector over pixel manipulation any day.

I wonder if it would be a real freehand drawing enhancement to have a built in eraser function to the freehand pencil tool to erase either connections between nodes or entire paths; maintaining the curves for instance if a path was split in to. The idea would be to closely simulate a pencil and tablet.

The Samsung Tabs with stylus had an app that was similar to this feature and it really made it efficient for scribbling, note taking, quick drafts, or general sketches requiring less UI manipulation and SVG exporting.

What do you think? Would this be a great feature or what?

What about the Eraser tool? It even works with graphics tablet pens that can be turned around, as far as I know...

Thanks.. I don't know how I missed seeing the eraser tool. I'll try that. Thanks again!

I have a "New" feature request...

I would like to see "Saveable" and re-callable "Workspace"   explanation: The docking area set up with the tabs you would commonly use and other workspaces you would use for special projects, " made saveable". This would make various work spaces quickly re-callable.

( this would be similar to workspaces, in just about all Adobe products.)

    Cheers

@Bobaloo, until there is a convenient menu in the preferences, there is a workaround:

What version of Inkscape did you have in mind?

    Any.

Maybe backup dialogs-state-ex.ini (if exist) located in the same folder before testing your workaround?

    Maybe...

Feel free to share helpful insights.

At least on Windows, dialogs state is now stored in dialogs-state-ex.ini, not in preferences.xml (since 1.2).

I would like a feature similar to Blender where you can set a view clipping border to make complex documents faster to respond by limiting what is rendered. You can see the feature here in the Blender docs.

I would like to propose a new feature:
Today: With Numpad "+" and "-" you can zoom in or out.

Future: Combine SHIFT + Numpad "+" or "-" to get 3 / 5 / 10 steps (the step-nums should be configurable) of zoom in or out.
