Well, I've tried both 1.2 and 1.3(dev). Align and Distribute/Circular is not obvious and it's definitely not stable (either version 1.2release or 1.3dev)
Want to crash InkScape? Just play with this option in various manners, using rectangles & ellipses & paths & combinations in the Align and Distribute/Circular- worse than at the demolition derby.
That being said, I have had objects move on screen using this, but I've found no documentation (yet) as to what it's doing (or attempting to do). I'm afraid to try it as it's normally lights-out.
