I'm trying to create hatchings using the Calligraphy Tool. Unfortunately my input device is a trackpad, and I can't seem to get hatchings to work.
In order to start my new line, I have to tap my trackpad twice ("double-click" it). Unfortunately, Inkscape reads that as finishing the line, and so I end up with a line of one (and therefore invisible) point.
Are there any alternatives to this method, or will I just have to wait until I finishing saving up for a tablet and stylus?
Forgot to say: I'm on an antiquated iMac, running macOS 10.13.6 and Inkscape 1.0.2 (e86c8708).
Well . . . it did something. There are a lot of switches on it, so it will take me a while to figure out exactly what it's doing and how I can control it. It's gonna take me a looooong time to save up for the tablet, however, so I might as well have something to keep me busy.
Yes LPEs are separated from the usual commands. Extensions too. It gives Inkscape 3 separate non related worlds for usability. Some LPEs are integrated with the relevant commands like B-Splines quite sensibly. But finding the right command is harder when they are distributed arbitrarily like this. "You just have to know" or go search. An overhaul of the whole UI to rethink the best way to make Inkscape more natural to use is due. Which might annoy people for a while. But in the long run it'll make Inkscape more inclusive and welcoming.

Try the LPE called Hatches. Maybe can accomplish the task.
I always forget about LPEs!

Thanks, Marco!
