Someone asked my how to make this kind of shape with maximum precision to be used in a commercial product.

This could be achieved in many always. But this was my workflow:

    1. First I used the Extension > Render > Gear > Rack Gear. Then I used Path > Path Effects > Corners to round the teeth, only three are necessary:

    2. Create a rectangle and place exactly between the wave, than select booth objects than Path > Cut Path. Separate.

    THIS WILL BE YOUR PATTERN:

    3. Copy (Crtl + C) this object than create a circle from the designated size. Than (while it's selected) go to Path > Path Effect > Follow along the path.

    4. On the Pattern Source, click on LINK TO PATH IN CLIPBOARD. And in Pattern copies, select REPEATED, STRETCHED

The result will be already something like bellow. Then proceed to adjust the PATTERN and it will automatically transform the gear.
