When I make my SVG and save it to my C drive, it shows the actual picture of the SVG file. When i transfer it to my D drive (my C drive is tiny and all of my storage is in D) it does not show the thumbnail any longer, it just shows the Inkscape Icon. I am having to make a png file with the same name to be able to see it without opening every file and its taking up twice as much room. How can i get the file to show it in the D drive also. I am not super tech savvy, so I need simple instructions please. LOL. I looked at file properties to see if there was something different, but I have no clue. HELP PLEASE! Thanks.
I assume you're on Windows (I'm guessing that from "C/D drive", but please always include info about your OS and Inkscape version when asking a question)?
If so, Inkscape actually does not ship with a thumbnail handler. Therefore I'm not even sure where the thumbnails on your "C drive" come from. Usually Windows Explorer only shows the icon corresponding to the file extension, and therefore the Inkscape logo if you've registered the .svg file extension with Inkscape.
Inkscape's Open dialog offers a preview - sort of like a thumbnail, I guess. I realize that won't help for your file manager. But if you're looking for SVG files, does that mean you want to open Inkscape? Maybe you could open Inkscape first, and use the Open dialog for browsing the drive?
Edit
On 2nd thought, I wonder why you don't see the thumbnails on the other drive? Are you still using Windows Explorer to browse the D drive?
Hhmm.... You haven't changed the way you make your SVG files, have you? For example, if the entire drawing is outside the page border, you might see a blank thumbnail, in Window Explorer. Maybe the problem is in the files, rather than the drive???
I fixed my problem, all is good. I needed the svg converter that was deleted
I too am having a similar problem. Since downloading inkscape I no longer see the thumbnails of my svg files that I have downloaded. Any svg files that I have downloaded prior are still there but all new ones now show an inkscape thumbnail or the google circle thumbnail. Is there a setting inside inkscape that will allow me to have all my svg thumbnails
