Several Forum members include animated GIFs in their comments to explain Inkscape processes (eg. @TylerDurden, @PixelPest). I usually view the GIF in the Browser (Firefox) but I have no control to pause or reverse the display to check the menu selection or value entered. Example attached.
I am using Win7 Home; cannot display the GIFs using Windows Media Player. I can display it in IrfanView and ImageMagick but cannot control the display. I am reluctant to pay for an animated GIF application if a fully functional one is available (for Windows) open source.
If this is of broader interest to more than me, could we get some information on how to control the display (as always - open source is better)?
You can pause/play/rewind GIFs in the browser with extensions such as GifScrubber. Very convenient!
I just found GifScrubber in the Chrome Extension store. I tested it works in Opera and Vivaldi. But I didn't find a link for a Firefox one. I hope someone can post one here.
But you can pause a GIF in Firefox with the Esc key! And in general you can pause animations by using a screenshot app to select an area of the screen.
Here is an animated gif I just made of Gifscrubber in action with it's controls at the bottom.

Thank you ahead, Oblio
Not familiar with Windows but shouldn´t be too hard to find a decent GIF viewer app methinks:
