Hello. Recently I turned on my PC and it started to update a new version of Windows.
It changed all my inkscape files into web files. From that moment I could no longer access the inkscape files and edit anything anymore. There are about 100 designs in there that took me 8 months ! When I try to open these files it takes a long time and then it asks me if I want Microsoft Edge as my default browser.
I have a Lenovo Think Pad operating on Windows.
I have not selected Microsoft Edge as I'm scared of a worse %$ยฃ" up occurring that I cannot undo.
found a workaround. I go into inkscape program, open files, and it works. But I have to know the file name. The old way I used to do it from the stored files in the memory on my hard drive doesn't work anymore.
Oh dear. It isn't working anymore. The second time I open the files, they have no inkscape content. I have to open the files in Inkscape first. They do not open properly. Then I can go to open recent, and select the file I just tried to open. With open recent they open properly.
It sounds like Windows has associated the svg filetype with browsers.
I would find an svg (Inkscape) file in windows, right-click for the menu, select "Open with" and tick the checkbox that says "always use this program" (or similar) and select Inkscape.ย This should re-associate the svg files to open directly with Inkscape.
