I'm trying to reproduce the example here with no success. The problem is, when the calligraphy tool crosses the path of a previous hatch stroke, the darkness of that stroke also influences its width. The result is little blotches at each intersection. Seems like there must be some setting configuration requirements that I fail to meet. In the attached picture, I've just used a white background to make the (unwanted) effect clear.

I suppose this could have been made by drawing just half the hatch marks, hiding them, then drawing the other half. But usually the guide is good about not omitting such details. @
