I'm trying to simply fill an object with color. I've read the solutions in the community and cannot resolve it. A strange thing is that when I preview the file in Finder, it shows the color that I selected. But I can see no colors in Inkscape (see attached files).
I've restarted Inkscape several times, but now am not sure how to proceed.
Alas, that didn't work for me. It was already set to Normal.
I can change the stroke paint, width etc. but cannot get the object fill to do anything. It seems to think it has changed it but nothing happens on the screen.
Down in the bottom left of the screem, I see Fill and against that I have a checkerboard rectangle (alpha channel) and a rectangle set to the selected fill colour. But under that is Stroke and both rectangles have the chosen stroke colour.
I have just upgraded from an Intel iMac, in which I had no problem with Fill. to an M4 - something may have got changed.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Perhaps a trivial question😊:
Did you leave "Outline" on? Try switch to "Normal" ...
Also check cmd/ctrl-6 (split mode) toggle.
Mikael, that's it! I didn't realize I selected the outline option. Thanks for taking the time to help!

In the Fill and Stroke dialog (Shift+Ctrl+F) adjust the Alpha (A:) slider to 100
Thank you! I have been struggling with that all day Resolved in an instant.
I can now get on with what I was doing.
Relief!
