Window positioning code is a mess.

A lot of things were regressed in master or broke due to the update to gtk3. It's barely working again for the main window, that it's broken for other Windows is more likely than not. I meant to look into it at some point but did not find the time yet.

Bigger fish to fry for now, I'm sure.

I'm not positive about this.  Maybe developers would have another preference?  But I'm thinking it might be better for you to post bugs about the new beta version as Issues in GitLab, rather than reporting them in the forum.  https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/issues  More developers will see them on GL, than here, probably.

Happy to do either, but the forum instructions seemed to pointedly request posting here first ("please first discuss it with us here in the forum"), which does provide a chance to filter out things that aren't really bugs (or clarify what the bug is) before they clutter up the bug tracker.

    Aah! Right you are!!

In your case, I feel like you probably already have enough expertise to make that determination.  I'm just concerned that in your case, where you have demonstrated that you know what you're doing, posting it here might prevent developers from seeing it, or at least delay them from finding it.

That forum instruction is meant to address a problem I've seen fairly often, where new users can't figure out how to do something, or something doesn't work like they expected, and they call it a bug. They don't realize that a "bug" is about the program's code, rather than their personal experience.  But I'm quite sure you understand that.

Well, I'll have another look at the rules, and see if there's a better way to word it.  If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share.

Meanwhile, if you feel better posting it here first, that's fine.  But personally, I trust that you can make the determination when something is likely a bug.  In many cases, you probably have a better idea than me  🙂
