Next question. The very same imported pdf the text was selectable and editable as the all are from the original pdf's in this case. Why on the import is text being converted to paths? What did I check off to make this happen.

I don't think that you can, in import dialog, choose the font that will be used to replace the missing font : inkscape chooses the closest-named font (sounds weird).
In inkscape, I thought it would be quite simple to use the find / replace dialog of inkscape to quickly replace the fonts, but I didn't succeed (Search in : properties / Scope : all / Properties : attribute value / Object type : Texts)
Simplier : you can save the file as svg, open the svg file with a text editor, use search / replace feature to replace the font names and save (in text editor) and in inkscape reopen or simply do file > revert.
I found clicking on the icon to the right of the font name selects all the text of that font on the graphic. In same window now select the font you want and it changes all text to that font. Don't want to do this for every graphic though. Was hoping there was a way to get it done on the import of the pdf rather than dealing with every graphic.
My text tool has stopped selecting text on my imported PDF's. I can't remember how to fix this. Yes I did it before. Old man memory issue.
Could be the text isn´t longer text but converted paths. Check in Status Bar when "text" is selected by Selector tool.
It is text, just can't select it
can't paste screen shot here
Use the Paperclip icon to upload files/images.

That was an Inkscape svg. not showing.
Thanks for the file. As I guessed: There´s no Text object in the file just in paths converted text:
