Hello, I'm using Inkscape 1.2 on Windows 11. I am trying to import a JPG image into Inkscape and when ever I do it using the default import options the color of the image changes. I have tried resetting all my preferences back to default and repeated the same but to no avail. I have attached the screen shots of the image before importing (viewing using windows image viewer) and after importing.
I simply opened the image with Gimp and exported a copy, and the copy opens in Inkscape without issue. (Gimp does the conversion to rgb when it opens.)
Checked the converted file with Irfanview and no reference to CMYK.
They are intended for print. My question is if the original files were already in CMYK and I have converted them to sRGB in GIMP and now edited them in inkscape. Does it mean that though I'm working in rgb all the colours are compatible with CMYK right?
Unfortunately there aren't any really good solutions yet. I'm expecting that Inkscape will handle CMYK in a year or two, until then you can try the solutions suggested by Nick:
Not all RGB colors correspond to CMYK and vice-versa.
You can use color management & CMYK in Inkscape, but the colors in the image and elements you add might be fine in RGB. If you are printing in-house, it's easy enough to make a proof print and see. If you are using a printing service, they may be able to provide a proof.
Sorry for resurrecting a 3 yo post, just thought it could be useful for someone with the same problem.
Color management is indeed complex. One solution, for me, is opening the jpg in Gimp, Image > Color management > Assign color profile > Assign the built-in RGB. From there I can correct the color and, when I import it in Inkscape, colors are way closer than usually.

Please share the jpg file for evaluation. Might be encoded CMYK.
Yes, I have installed Irfan View to check and it seems like it has CMYK. Now what are the methods available to mitigate such issue?
Last comment seems to not have image attached so this comment.

Got it. Once I finish editing it in Inkscape, how do I convert it back to CMYK profile?
You might not need to, depending on the final use of the artwork.
