Please don't post artwork containing AI generated graphics or 3rd party images. as it can be hard to see what you (the artist) has produced using Inkscape.
You're encouraged to discuss and offer feedback/constructive criticism to others, but please be respectful.
Most importantly, be creative, give your best, and have fun!
It would be nice if there was a option to use global or independent light source Inkscape.
I've notice that when I move some objects, the filter or effect changes. Sometimes even renders differently when viewed in different browsers and from Mac to Windows.
P.S. I held some excitement when I came across this monthly challenge. My thinking was being able to open and investigate how others create and fill/stroke their *.svg document, only to fine png's and jpg's.
Anyone can upload bitmap images and claim, "oh, look what I did". We had an intern do that with his portfolio. He showcased other peoples work claiming that He wanted to produce pieces like theirs. and hoped to do so upon being hired.
@dhouston1000 yes, it can be a bit frustrating to not post SVGs. Bitmaps are a compromise : rendering fidelity, display problems when non-standard fonts are used, controlled weight (some compositions can be very heavy in their native form). As each user in forums + website galleries has a quota about 13-15 Mb, we try to optimize contributions to save space.
About work paternity, let's say when you see a submission by Lazur, Inkonic, Spwiggles, Gabor...You quickly know who did what, even without seeing their name : we all have our style.
Bonus : screencaps of mine, no-filter display mode.
We challenge you to:

Challenge entries (so far)
A simpler piece at first. Quickly, because it melts! ;D
@razr A nice first entry. Loving the bold reflection on the top... looks glossy!

@pacer yeah, it glossy, because it's melting :)
My idea was to make the word Inkscape melt.
I used outline type, pen tool path effects.
The bevel is not a filter - it was taken from the paths.
@Inkonic Very nice. My only gripe is the drop shadow on the right is a bit harsh. Overall, your design is quite realistic. - Thanks for sharing!
@Paperacrobat
Welcome to the challenge!
I like this. Interesting use of color blending.
Thanks for sharing your artwork with us.

@Paperacrobat Hi, Mark. Well done!. My only remark is that the drippings should have been combined with the corresponding letters S and C.
@pacer Hey, Pacer. Yes, I noticed. You're absolutely right. I may correct this in the future.🧐

@Inkonic
That's nice... I was out in the sun earlier... I can relate!
@inkonic Thanks for the comment.
I totally missed that the melts were not joined to the letters!
@pacer yes the drop shadow was a bit dark :-)
@pacer
@inkonic
Is it ok to resubmit my image - ive updated it but cannot edit my original image.
New image is here - thank you :-)
@Paperacrobat
Of course. You may also post multiple entries if you'd like to.
Pinkscape -nothing new, just the flawor.
Didn't go wild with the filters, before the pc melts too.
@Lazur Raspberry flavor I think. Looks good. Thanks for sharing.
I think I made the caramel a little to watery.
Inspired by true life events here down undah! Did a little detour from my usual comfort zone of realism and went into more illustration. Enjoy! 😊
I love all the submissions so far !
Continuing the previous piece. If your child has ever dropped an ice cream cone, you understand why this is a sad case.
;)
I totally agree @Paperacrobat -- Some great examples in this thread.
@Boxcutter Maybe thin, but a nice effect nevertheless.
@hacebaltazar Lovely cartoon style!
@Spwiggles I like that style. It is worth exploring further. Thanks for sharing. (I like to see diversity of style)
@razr This one looks like it hit the ground hard. Tears for sure. Great work!

@dhouston1000 can only quote "pinkscape's" tagline: pc meltingly good.
Insert meme with the bell curve. Using jpg-s for the web is fine.
For starters, it's easier to handle. Renders without restrictions, can be attached, hosted, copy-pasted to all platforms without any extra steps.
Loads faster. Svg is based on scalability -not much that has to offer in this day and age to regular users.
Responsive design is not so common and can't really take advantage of zooming in when the screen resolution is around 4k.
In that scale range, a jpg is not just loading faster, but is also alot smaller. Therefore bandwidth usage is smaller too.
Still.
Most of the time I get the chance I'm sharing the original svg.
Often which I regard as "handle with care" and those who know what that means won't click on those anyway.
For that matter cannot browse through my inkscape gallery because it hangs the browser.
Attached a raster image this time out of convenience. There isn't anything fancy this time though.
Now, on global or independent light -the diffuse filter has either a point or distant light source.
It is global for every filtered object.
What you are lookingfor, is getting rid of the transformation matrix of the objects, that interfere with the rendering.
Like, ungroup everything and apply filters to the individual objects.
p.s. if you can point to any of my work you are interested in the source of, I'll look it up if it isn't present already.
@dhouston1000
I think you will find most of us uploaded jpg or png as it’s just easier and more compatible.
Some web sites just don’t like SVG files.
Suggesting that the work is not ours is - to me - quite offensive!

Followup of my previous version. Still not satisfied. Would tweak it further with an improved filter if I could.
Can you open it? I lost patience for waiting.
Attaching the svg to see if someone has better luck.
