So... yeah. Hi there. The name's Moor Oakheart. You can me Moor, Oakheart, Oak, Tree, or Green (or any other names you prefer). I am new here in this community. I am basically here just to catch up with recent news and to see if there's any contest I can possibly have the chance to beat.
And... that's all I guess. Sorry for the short and to the point intoduction. It's nice to be here, anyway.
I made this thread to introduce myself, because I thought everybody here make their own thread to introduce themselves (at least that's what happens in the other forums I am at). But if you guys wanted to make this thread an introduction thread for anyone, well, I wouldn't mind it.
I have been using Inkscape as much as I can, to get use to it and its many functions. Looks like it can do at lot, as I keep finding more as I go. However, some take a while to find, so it's helpful to have this forum for help and advise. Bit of a learning curve, but most fully function software are.
I'm Linsty aka Marcia from the Netherlands. Still learning Inkscape and I love it so far. Right now I hope to learn a lot from you all, but I love to stick on my motto "giving knowledge = getting knowledge", so I hope I will be able to contribute a lot in the future.
Hi. My name is Marina and I use Inkscape all the time. Recently due to a pandemic, I am using it for business also and I need an auto-tracing option (batch processing) of black and white images.
I come here to the forum to ask is it possible to batch process multiple black and white PNG images into SVG using script or something.
I tried the same in illustrator but the results are not what I want (the black and white drawing with white interior and outside transparent).
Inkscape gives better results so i hope there is a way to automate this.
Hey y'all! I recently added a Langmuir systems plasma table to my blacksmith shop. I'm having a horrible time learning CAD/CAM and am bailing out from Fusion 360 to Inkscape. I don't plan on having complex designs. I just want to make some basic items, create g-code for my fire control and cut them out. Starting here at square one and starting over with tutorials.
Also trying to find someone willing to tutor me in the Harrisburg, PA area. Or perhaps submitting images to be converted to cut-ready files that work with my system. But overall I prefer DIY.
Just popping in to say hi! Here's my tale of woe & discovery...
I've recently discovered & installed Inkscape. I found it by searching the web for "Corel alternatives". I had to do a clean install on my workhorse PC to get Windows 10 to run (finally had to upgrade from Win 7). With that, my old version of Corel stopped working, and I couldn't get it to re-install (too ancient of a version) and there's no way I'm jumping on the "monthly subscription train" for Corel. It's enough to have to do that with Photoshop! I don't use Corel all that much, but I have LOTS of note card files and marketing materials that were created with it. Fortunately, I still have a working copy of it on my laptop, so I can convert files over as the need arises. But that's not a long-term solution. I'm very grateful to have found Inkscape! It's been able to open some of the Corel files I've tried so far. No luck with others, but I can export those on the laptop to AI from Corel, and then work with them on the PC. It's been a rabbit-hole adventure and a very roundabout workflow, but I'm glad to have a long-term solution with Inkscape.
Some versions of Corel have a batch converter plug-in. So it might be possible for you to quickly convert all your files to SVG in Corel, and work in Inkscape from that point forward. I can't promise with any certainty that all versions of Corel have this option, but it might be worth looking into.
Thanks for the tip, Tyler! Next time I fire up my laptop, I'll see what my options are. SVG format hasn't been on my radar until now, so I didn't think to see if that was an option for conversion/export. That's why I was going the AI route, but fingers crossed the X4 version of Corel will play nice :-)
Hello I started to discover the basics of Inkscape 3 years ago to use it as a complement to Gimp, then out of laziness, I gave up. I'm starting again and I hope to be more persevering thanks to you.😊
Hello... I'm making this thread to introduce myself. Everyone was introducing his/herself so, I thought I should do that too. I'm Olivia Mia. I'm here to explore this site. I would love to participate in your competitions. May be I can win. Thanks for this question. I'm glad to be here.
My name is Irene, but you can also call me cartoonygothica, as it is the username I tend to use online. I like drawing cartoony stuff, mostly my characters or fan art from my favorite cartoons. I used to use a version of Adobe Illustrator that was saved to a disc, but I ran into issues with installation when I tried to install it on my previous laptop. I can't afford to pay a subscription for Adobe products, so I was thankful to have discovered Inkscape. I like that Inkscape is free, has many of the same sort of functions as Illustrator, and gets improved frequently. Though I may have strangely specific feature requests, I hope to learn from others in the Inkscape community. I've used Inkscape for four years now, and I hope to keep using it for many more years to come.
It may require you passing probation here. Two approved posts here allow un moderated comments. Reply to this message and we'll approve that one as well.
Just saying hello to the Forum, as I have just started with Inkscape. I've been using Illustrator for a while I wanted to try something new and free and amazing, but Just came across Inkscape as I needed a Vector software program., so will see how it performs.
HI guys. I'm Mike. I love inkscape and want to be more active in the community. Any suggestions for any other forums on here that I should check out to become more involved with the community?I actually used to teach all the Adobe software's, but now I'm an Inkscaper, with a lot to learn and adapt. Looking forward to sharing some of my work in the future.
Hello, @UltraMagnus Welcome. There are more experienced people here who will be able to assert you, I don't dare. But there is a monthly challenge where maybe you can show your work. It's just for sharing, there are no winners or anything like that.
Hi, I've been using Inkscape for all my vector needs for over a decade now (probably close to 20 years actually). I really love this tool, my outmost respect for the devs and the community behind it! I am here primarily to inquire about a specific python code concerning certain extension. I am a 3D artist and a software developer. I hope to find the information I seek and maybe help someone else.
Oh, wait, I found a better place to introduce myself, whoops.
Heyo, been using Inkscape since 2017 I believe, also because I was in a place with people I don't really consider my friends anymore (I was an immature 12 year old), but, nowadays, I sometimes use Inkscape for personal use, and that's for Adobe Animate stuff. The tools there aren't really the best, so...
I'm just here to ask about stuff, since it's the vector program I'm used to the most.
I am a retired (Union) Cabinetmaker, with many years experience in drafting/design. While I have maintained licenses in Adobe Illustrator/CorelDraw/Serif Designer Pro, I occasionally use InkScape as it handles .svg files reliably. If the forum moderator reads this, please advise as to the appropriate forum to address InkScape web site problems (bad links). Thanks.
Greetings all. Adding Inkscape to my digital tool box as I back away from Adobe Illustrator. I am a long time published cartoonist who uses Krita to produce print for magazines, but I see that I can combine Inkscape and Krita to deliver designs. I joined so I can learn more & get brutal feedback. Thanks.

Thanks! XD
Hello, everyone.
I am an architect and have many hobbies including drawing comics.
I am happy to be part of this community!
Hi @paul10 , and welcome!
thank you very much
Anyway, nice to meet you too, Paul!
@z3z should be pin this topic so it can be a generic introduction thread for new people? (or make a new thread?)
I made this thread to introduce myself, because I thought everybody here make their own thread to introduce themselves (at least that's what happens in the other forums I am at). But if you guys wanted to make this thread an introduction thread for anyone, well, I wouldn't mind it.
@doctormo Yeah, good idea, I'll sticky the thread.
@MoorOakheart Thanks for 'donating' your thread! 😄 I'll tweak the subject a little just to make it clear that it's open to everyone.
Hi all,
Just saying hello to the Forum, as I have just started with Inkscape.
I've been building websites for various businesses and have been using Photo Impact for many years as it was pretty versatile and fitted the bill.
Just came across Inkskape as I needed Vector software program., so will see how it performs.
Cheers.
Nice to meet you, Marcus!

Hello Sofia here. I'm glad to be the part of this forum. I hope to have interesting conversations ahead.
Hello all.
I am new to Inkscape, only discovered it a few days ago and I can't believe what a wonderful tool it is, and free to boot!
It has really inspired me so much having recently lacked the motivation to create.
I am looking forward to learning Inkscape, making new friends, and becoming part of the Inkscape community :)

Hello everyone!
I've been using inkscape for a long time, but I'm still just a hobbyist. I hope I can help and grow as part of the community here.
