I've been using Inkscape for years and I still find easier ways of doing things in the GUI every day. The GUI is feature packed to make things easy and accessible. I can only point to one thing that I would recommend improving: An easy method to add colors to the default swatch within the GUI. I know how to create swatches and save them. But if you could easily add colors to the default swatch within the GUI that would be much more user friendly IMHO. Thank you for humoring my recommendation.
WOW! you replied fast. That is definitely a step in the right direction. However: "Note: Pinned colors only show up if the current palette contains them."
I understand that it is not as simple as it sounds. Inkscape has to get the colors from somewhere. Adding custom colors is definitely a big deal. Thanks for pointing out the upcoming swatch pinning feature.
An Auto palette was added in v0.48. This is the default palette shown in the Swatches dialog. Initially it is empty. It will automatically include Custom Swatches as they are added to a document. This palette is document dependent.
That's very helpful. I suppose I am suggesting editable palettes.
See the attached screenshot. I may never use the default colors in the palette. But there may be a few colors that I use repeatedly. If I could edit the default colors in the palette, they would always be readily available and save the steps of opening a previous document, re-saving the colors to a swatch, or creating a custom palette.
I get what you're saying. I'm wondering what the best approach might be... It's not likely that the stock palettes will be made editable like swatches.
Maybe request:
Pinning from any palette, not just the active one.
All pins are converted to swatches for editing.
In the meantime, maybe set a default new document template that has swatches below (auto), and set the swatches dialog for the Default Inkscape palette, tabbed on the dock.

And don't forget the Auto Palette, when you save swatches, it displays them in the palette.
