Greetings Inkscape users

A few days ago I updated to version 1.1 and started learning the new interface by making a drawing with the bezier tool.

Everything seemed to working fine until trying to make a second drawing today. 

After drawing a curve with the bezier tool I can't get the round grab handles on the nodes to function, they are locked in place.

The node will move fine but nothing happens with the grab handles.

This is where it gets strange ... Going back to first saved drawing the grab handles work fine on the original drawn lines but when drawing a new curve in the same drawing the grab handles don't work.

A bug ?

Or a setting I haven't learned yet ?

I wonder if you are using the mode BSpiro lines. In this case, use Shift to move handles, and ctrl to move handles by steps.
I'm checking on Mac, so it's also possible a peculiar bug on a different system.

Sorry ... not understanding what  BSpiro means ? Is this a button to toggle that changes the behavior of the bezier curve ?

Trying your suggestion of "shift" to move the handles has some effect ... just not the desired effect.

"Shift"  allows the handles to move in a linear fashion between nodes (straight movement from one node to the next node) but handles still won't pivot on the node center.

Just saw an old video showing "path effects"

When toggling the "removing path effects" the handles do function again.

Not sure how the effect was turned on but now understand what's going on.

Object to path seems to solve the problem.
